Our Lady of the Pines Parish in Nevis began a educational program with Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Baudin, Haiti, in the spring of 2000. This program was arranged through the Parish Twinning Program of the Americas in Nashville, TN. St. Theodore's of Tarsus in Laporte and St. Mary's of Two Inlets, joined our project and the program became known as the Haiti Godchild Project of MN.
Our mission is under the financial oversight of Our Lady of the Pines Corporate Board and the Finance Council. Our Lady of Perpetual School is administered by Father Ronel Vildor, a Haitian priest educated in Rome. Fr. Nicholas Clerveau has visited Nevis numerous times-as a way of strengthening the spiritual bond between our Parish communities and Haiti.
The aim of the Haiti Mission Committee was to strengthen the Our Lady of Perpetual Help primary school in Baudin. Student sponsorships initially funded school fees, lunches and generators for electricity. Later, in addition to individual student scholarships, financial assistance was given to develop a secondary school financed by Haiti Mission funds and built with Haitian labor and Our Lady of the Pines parishioners. This school opened in 2005. Additional classes have been added each year. In 2011-12, the final Grade 13 classroom was completed.
